Just five years after their formation, VersaEmerge have lost more members than they’ve managed to hold onto. But with a knack for innovative song writing and a feisty female vocalist who could give Paramore’s Hayley Williams a run for her money, they’ve not only kept it together but thrived. Pairing mildly hardcore and cinematic elements, Versa’s current lineup has transcended the cookie cutter synthed-out pop rock genre that rule today’s music scene. In plainer terms: they’re less like that oddly feminine band your little sister’s wallpapered her walls with posters of and more like something you’d hear on the soundtrack of an edgy something flick. Their full-length debut, Fixed at Zero, which dropped June 22, is proof that this is just the beginning. They may have a “vulture on their shoulder,” but they’ve also got one nesting inside of them that’s ready to go in for the kill.
