Gym Class Heroes is an alternative hip hop band. They formed in 1997 when frontman Travis McCoy met their drummer Matt McGinley at their local high school in Geneva, New York. The original Gym Class Heroes played birthday parties and clubs, along with festivals which eventually led them to playing larger venues along with Warped Tour in 2003 and 2004. Their original guitarist Milo Bonacci was replaced in December 2004 with Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo. Their bassist Ryan Geise left the band during their rise to fame and was replaced by current bassist Eric Roberts.
Gym Class Heroes had gained somewhat of a 'cult following' after the release of their first album "...For the Kids". They released 3 CD's between 1999 and 2004 including "The Papercut EP". After hearing the song "Taxi Driver", Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy invited the Gym Class Heroes to one of their shows. They then went on to join Pete Wentz' label, Decaydance Records, which is an imprint of Fueled By Ramen. They released "The Papercut Chronicles" in 2005 and "As Cruel as School Children" in 2006. They appeared on the 2005 and 2006 Warped Tours.
They released their fourth album "The Quilt" on September 9th.
