Fall Out Boy formed in 2001 and was a five-piece at the time, members including Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, Patrick Stump and and former members T.J. Raccine and Mike (credited with no last name). They released an EP on on May 28th, 2002 on the independent record label Uprising Sound entitled "Split." Fall Out Boy played five tracks on the EP, and Project Rocket played five as well. While on Uprising Sounds, they also released a full length album entitled "Evening Out With Your Girlfriend," with lyrics by Stump and music by the band.

For their next album, "Take This To Your Grave," Fall Out Boy signed to Fueled By Ramen. It was realsed on May 6th, 2003. Raccine and Mike left the band and Raccine was replaced by Andy Hurley, and Stump picked up the guitar part. The band released three videos from this album; "Saturday," "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy?" and "Dead On Arrival."

Fall Out Boy signed to Island Records which is a part of the mainstream label The Island Def Jam Music Group, along with Def Jam Records in mid-2003, where they released "My Heart Will Always Be The B-Side To My Tongue" EP in 2004. On May 3rd, 2005, they released their sophomore album, "From Under The Cork Tree" (Abbreviated at FUCT). FUCT achieved platinum status, selling over 2.5 million copies in the US. The first single, "Sugar We're Goin' Down" got the band much success. It debuted #8 on Billboard and was number one one TRL. The second single, "Dance, Dance," premiered at #9 on Billboard and also reached number one on TRL. "A Little Less Sixteen Candles and A Little More 'Touch Me'" was released as the final single from that album.

"Infinity On High," released February 6th 2007, was the album that got Fall Out Boy their mainstream success. It reached number one on Bilboard 200 and sold over 260,000 copies. "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race," the leading single, peaked at number two on Billboard. "The Carpal Tunnel of Love" was the second single, followed by "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs." They premiered their video for "The Take Over, The Break's Over," on Friends Or Enemies.com on July 7th, 2007. Later that year, "I'm Like a Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me and You)" was released as a video, filmed in Northern Uganda. Profits from this video went to Invisible Children.

In fall 2007, Fall Out Boy attempted to break a Guiness World Record by playing on all seven continents in less than nine months. They were not successful, though, as the weather conditions in Antarctica did not allow them to play in time.

On April 1st, 2008, Fall Out Boy released a live cd/dvd combo entitled "****: Live In Pheonix." The concert was recorded at the Phoenix date of the 2007 Honda Civic Tour. They released a recorded version of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" featuring John Mayer as a single.

After touring all throughout 2007, Fall Out Boy took a break to write a new album. They released a mixed tape on their Friends or Enemies profile featuring remixes and unrealsed tracks from all artists signed to Wentz' record label, Decaydance. They premiered their latest single on their official website, called "I Don't Care" on September 3rd, 2008. "Folie a Deux" was released on Island and Decaydance on December 16th, 2008.
